Senior Safety & Mobility

Castle Home maintenance believes Seniors should age in place whenever possible.  Aging in place means staying in the comfort of your own home for as long as possible as you get older, rather than moving into a retirement or long-term care facility. Aging in place may be a viable option if you only need minor assistance with your daily activities, enjoy a close network of family and friends nearby, and can utilize the right home care services to cover your needs.

Save valuable time and have a professional assemble your furniture for you. Assembling furniture can be overwhelming for some people. Tired of always having extra parts left over after completing the assembly? Leave it to us, we will come in and assemble your furniture and put it where you need. We will take away any of the garbage and leave you with a clean space.

Increase Independence – As you age, you may require the use of a walker, wheelchair, or other assistive medical technology. When going from room to room in your home, narrow doorways can impede your ability to get from one room to the next on your own because the assistive tech will not fit through the door. You have to choose between waiting for help or a caregiver to arrive to get what you need or attempting to access it without your tech, neither of which are ideal options for an independent senior.

Anyone who struggles with lowering to sit or rising to stand on their own,is recovering from back, hip or knee surgery, is prone to falls because of poor balance, has low strength, or requires assistance to use the bathroom can benefit from an elevated toilet seat. This is especially true for anyone who wants to maintain as much personal independence as possible. An aversion to asking for help often leaves people struggling to use the bathroom on their own, even when it isn’t safe to do so. Lower body weakness and balance issues are among the top causes of falls at home. An elevated toilet seat can mitigate the risk of a bathroom fall by decreasing the distance between the standing user and the toilet seat.

Falls are most likely to occur while getting in and out of a bathtub. Wet hands do not provide a good grip on the edges of a slippery tub. A safety rail parallel to the tub makes it easier for seniors with restricted mobility to stand up or sit in a tub. Additionally, you can install a non-slip bathtub step to make stepping in and out of the tub safer

Proper senior care lighting should be energy efficient, while making their home a comfortable and safe place to stay. Good lighting should decrease shadows, reflections and glare and create an easy-transition facility. Meaning, seniors shouldn’t have to adjust their eyes or feel discomfort when moving from room to room around their home.

By decreasing shadows, reflections and glare, seniors will have less falls and accidents.
